New York, NY / February 17, 2013 – Iconic Jamaican broadcaster Richard “Richie B” Burgess joined the airwaves of LinkUp Radio WVIP 93.5FM starting Friday, February 15, 2013. He will be hosting the early morning show from 6:00am-10:00am Monday through Friday for the next two weeks.

Richie B is a longstanding broadcaster with over 25 years’ experience, who was once honored by the Reggae Music Achievement Awards as Canada’s greatest reggae talents and ranks among the most popular radio hosts in Jamaica. Richie has made numerous appearances at major events such as Reggae Sumfest and the Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival.

Richie’s unique talent was discovered while he voiced commercials in the studio at RJR in Jamaica. Radio heads including Holford Plummer who heard the young Burgess perform, were noticeably impressed with the quality and resonance of his voice and formal training began immediately.

Richard’s first radio stint was hosting the Pre-Dawn Country Turn On at 1:00am-5:00am a.m. on Thursdays; he later got an additional show on Friday’s called Friday Frolic. His third year in radio saw him doing the High Energy Master Mix on a Saturday, where he was dubbed by then Program Director, Don Topping as ‘The Party Master.’ This became Ritchie B’s catapult, launching him in the limelight as a force to be reckoned with.

He started broadcasting during primetime afternoon slot in 1992, when RJR offered him a show ‘The Beat.” Richie B used this platform to further solidify his spot in the world of radio both domestically and overseas. He hosted his show on RJR until 2003 when he then joined the team over at Hot 102 FM. There, he created “The Hot Mix” where he remained until his departure from Hot 102 in early 2013. This show was rated as one of the top afternoon shows on Jamaican radio with a wide range of listeners.

David “Squeeze” Annakie, CEO of Linkup Media Group of Companies says, “This latest move is one in which, yet another person of Caribbean heritage will be able to impart and interact with the Caribbean-American audience the station caters to.” Mr. Annakie also stated, “The listeners always come first.”
